Datong- a coal mine city, about 400 KM from Beijing, one can go by train or even by bus from Beijing.Tourist bus can visit to Great Wall at Bataling and further proced to Datong. We traveled in that way. While returning, we traveled by overnight train from Datong to Beijing.
Hanging Pagoda which was constructed more than 1700 years ago on a wall of a hill. In real sense it is hanging and the river can be seen below. While walking on the floor of Pagoda, it vibrates and will feel like just now you will fall to the river below. It is construted by wood. Wooden logs are fixed in the wall of the hill for construction. If any one interested ,I can send the photographs throug the mail or here. It is simple wonder.
Down by the East gate away from all the other bars and restraunts.Caffeine Club is a good place to have an espresso or cup of coffee during the day. They have a big selection of beers and a very nice bar.The bar is located outside and has a very pleasant atmosphere. The owners are 2 foriegners. They are decent people and will help you with the ins and outs around town.At night they have pool tournaments on certains nights and B.B.Q. too.I highly recommend going there after a trip around the lake.
I can say that I've been a customer of The Bad Monkey for nearly 2 years now.During my 1st visit to this establishment I meet one of the now ex owners. It was a very basic place not much to say about it other than a few couches, decent music and a small selection of beer.Since September of 05 a new partner came into the picture and it has greatly improved.Everytime I visit the owners revovate something to make it better. They also now serve great snack and sandwhiches and have a large variety of beers and liquors. The staff is some of the best people I have met in my travels. They are very friendly and can always make you laugh with a good joke or funny story. This is one place I always look forward to visiting when I come to Dali.It is a great place to meet other travellers and some of the locals.I highly recommend visiting this establishment for a beer or some food or just to relax after a day of going around Lake Erhi or the mountain in Dali.
This is a new Indian Restaurant(GANGES) opened near Tsinghua University and Beijing/ Language University. ON Chengfu Road. The food is really good , the curries- Vegetable Curries start from rmb 30 and nan for rmb 10 , 1 non veg curry-chicken butter masala (may be 44 rmb) -and 1 nan and 1 plain rice -totally cost about 50 rmb-but is MUCH BETTER THAN EATING THOSE PIZZAS everyday..
Thos guys who do not like chinese food eating everyday-this is an excellent choice.
They also have rmb 28 (set menu)( 1 nan and lamb or chicken curry ) for lunch , Believe me it is real value for money. I happened to read about this in Thats beijing and the editor says- GANGES IS REAL DEAL for indian food in Beijing (he was so right ).(thanks so much Thats Beijing for your review)
