The food is delicious -- about as good as a high quality Indian restaurant in a ethnically diverse non-Indian city. Unfortunately, the service can sometimes be excruciatingly slow, especially if the restaurant has more than one or two other tables of diners.
Today, the "dough making guy" was apparently not at work, so chapatis, samosas, and momos were all unavailable. That's a pretty common occurrance -- take the menu as advisory only.
If the food were any more average, I'd stop visiting due to the higher than average prices, but I'm often happy enough with the food that I get, even if it wasn't what I wanted, that Arro Khampa rates the periodic visit.
From Lijiang's Yulong Xueshan Mountain in the east, to Zhongdian's Haba Xueshan Mountain in the west, Tiger Leaping Gorge is the longest, deepest, and narrowest gorge in the world. The Gorge acquired its name because, according to local legend, a tiger once leaped over its torrid rapids. The Gorge, one of the world best places, Tiger Leaping Gorge Original Guest
house established in 1983, was the first Walnut Garden guest house (Sean's
spring Lodge). This place offers responsible mountain guides, luxurious cozy rooms,
great food (many would claim it to be the best), directly opposite a dramatic
Opened by the folk who run the Raven bar, this is a beautifully renovated building (apparently one of the oldest in the old town) serving hotpots with a blend of lemony Guizhou flavours and Tibetan ingredients. Personally I'd say that outside Chegdu's Suan La hot pots this is the best hotpot I've tasted.
The Migratory Bird Bar would be worth the visit anywhere given the owner's English skills, friendliness and comfortable atmosphere. When you couple that with the indescribable view of the Meili Snow Mountain, stupas surrounded by colorful prayer flags, a beautiful valley, etc, how could you pass this up? The owners went out of their way to prepare a western breakfast for us (2004). They also helped us find a dependable driver to Mingyong Glacier. The late afternoon and evening, relaxing outside on the Bar’s upper deck, is just beyond compare.
I, from Calcutta , India stayed in this hotel twice during last three years. During my subsequent visits, I had to stay in other hotels due to different reason.
My experience with this hotel is very good. As I stayed in other hotels in Kunming, I can find the difference of Holiday-Inn with other hotels there. For outsiders , Holiday-Inn is the best place to stay in Kunming, both for food and hospitality with arrangements/ facilities provided by the hotel. It provodes 5* facilities of International standard with a cost of 3* hotel, I found it was cheaper than Indian hotels of that standard..
Bad Monkey is the only bar in Dali owned by foreigners and definetly the coolest place in China.
It is managed by two completely [snip] englishmen on the run from thai authorities and makes you forget all the bad experience with these boring karaoke discos in China. The Monkey got it all:cheap beer, great music, a lot of smoke, all kinds of [snip] and easy girls.
There are big comfortable sofas where you like to [snip] and sleep until closing time the next morning but also in daytime it is the best place to get away from the busy streets . You even can just go there smoke and chill out without being pressured to order any drink. A friend of mine helped them behind the bar and got free drinks and more....
