The buddhism is not an oldest religion

Has anybody done this trip recently or have any accurate information? We are in china til the summer when we wish to travel to the sights in western tibet and leave from the west going into Xinjiang. We don't mind splitting a land cruiser with people but then we have the problem of our guides wondering where we are when we disappear, not to mention paying a large amount of money for a jeep we are not using. How about possibilities of getting that way without a land cruiser?

LHASA, Sept.1 (Xinhua) -- Nyingchi Airport, the third civil airport in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, began operations when a Boeing 757 landed on Friday.

The plane left Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at Nyingchi Airport an hour and a half later, according to flight captain Wei Yiqiang.

"The weather was fine, so the flight turned out to be much less difficult than the test flight," Wei said.

I allready posted in the Yunnan forum but we changed our mind

We plan to go from Lijiang to Lhasa with our Chinese Made side car (BMW WWII copies)

Total 15 pax on 8 bikes

It seems doable, in term of distance, less doable in term of driving at high altitude... but why not

I am not clear if it is allowed to use the Yunnan - Tibet road for tourism ?

We will do it legally with permit and all... but i can not find any clear info on this fact

I allready have got quotation from travel agency including one off road car as assistance, one guide and permit. It seems a bit expensive and i am not so sure they understood that we want to do it as a group on motorbikes...
