Has anybody done this trip recently or have any accurate information? We are in china til the summer when we wish to travel to the sights in western tibet and leave from the west going into Xinjiang. We don't mind splitting a land cruiser with people but then we have the problem of our guides wondering where we are when we disappear, not to mention paying a large amount of money for a jeep we are not using. How about possibilities of getting that way without a land cruiser? when last in the region 3 years ago I knew of a public bus from Lhasa to Ali and I know that there was definately a bus between Karghilik in Xinjiang and Ali in Tibet cos I met the driver, saw the bus and got an extortionate quote for taking me. All information gladly received.
