I am very happy to stay in an old styled courtyard hotel. It is a traditional style hutong courtyard hotel located in a typical hutong neighborhood. The hotel resembles an oasis of peacefulness in the middle of Beijing therefore visitors will enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and not have the feeling of staying in a big metropolis. It is more like a home than a guest house. Also, we are very happy with the help of Wendy, who makes our trip more easier.
All four of us thought the lemony hotpot was delicious, served in a beautiful room.
i visisted this bar over a year ago now, and this morning as i put on
the t-shirt i bought there i realised i'd never left a comment on this
site as i'd promised! so here goes...this was quite simply one of the
most welcoming places i encountered when travelling through China. we
stumbled upon it desperate for a burger and a cold beer after weeks of
chinese food and warm beer, and were not disappointed. believe me,
however much you love chinese food, afer a while you just need a
burger...food and drink aside (they even have guinness!!!), the company

This is one of the better, if not the best, guesthouse where I've stayed in China! Settled in an old-naxi house, all restored. The atmosphere is really warm and relaxed, and the people there are nice and helpful! The owner is a photographer that knows pretty well the area and the most beautiful spots. He's a really nice person. Do not miss the supper-buffet, the cooker is amazing! The place is really REALLY clean! They have 24h hot water. And it is very inexpensive!
If you want to stay in the Old Town this is, for sure, the best choice.
I stayed here in February 2007 for the first time. It seemd like a 3 star hotel. Very spacious rooms and good facilities in rooms which are not available in USA or Canada. Great interior decor & with good kitchen and laundry facilities. Easy to find, centrally located opposite the Beijing Raiway Station, easy & quick access to subway, taxis, & buses. Hostel is surrounded by shops & malls. Foreign Credit cards were not accepted.
If you want to trek or experience places that are not in the guidebook then come up to Tashi’s Mountain Lodge in Reringkha village, just ten minutes taxi ride outside of Deqin town.

With its location near the old town square and its "ooh look at me, white people cooking food!" plate glass windows, the Compass seems to be having no problems drawing foreign tourists.
The place serves up reasonable grill food (which is great grill food by Shangri-La standards).
20 yuan and up for breakfast, 30 yuan and up for lunch and dinner. Open 0830-2230.
Out back, there are also four small furnished rooms for rent, but at the time of writing, there seemed to be no takers.
Its an original Tibetan house free of tourist hype. A little haven in the back streets of the old town, a very chilled, quiet, original restaurant with great home cooked food either on the terrace or around the cozy fire in the original kitchen (which still has most of its features) or in the Tibetan style restaurant. Very friendly and efficient staff. A wonderful place to chill and absorb the atmosphere of this area. A definite must go!
I really enjoyed my trekking at Tiger Leaping Gorge, on March, 2006.My story is on my website with nice photos, you can visit http://forest-cafe.infinites.net/Hikeleapinggorge.htm
