Me and my sister are in Japan Tokyo, for the moment. We are soon leaving for Kyoto, and then Osaka. We intend to go directly to Seoul from Osaka. After Seoul we want to go to China, or we must go to China because we have already bought the flight ticket home from Beijing. Though we have one problem. We had little time to fix visa before we left Sweden, so we decided to fix a chinese visa in either South Korea or Japan.

Now here is the question: how long time will it takes us to fix visa for China either in Osaka, or i Seoul? Is it possible to fix a visa three days before we are leaving to China?

I want to travel by train in july by train from Xiamen to Kunming. I have a couple of questions about this trip:
- what are the prices for a single trip?
- do we have to make a reservation before?
- is it possible to sleep at the train when it is night?
- are there other things we have to keep in mind?

THE only direct land link between India and China -- a Himalayan pass mapped by a British expedition a century ago -- is to be reopened this month for the first time in 44 years.

The 14,400ft Nathula Pass -- used by Colonel Francis Younghusband to lead a British invasion force to Tibet in 1904 -- has been closed since the Sino-Indian border war in 1962. Its reopening marks a belated thaw between the two old enemies who recently became business rivals.

For the past 44 years the only traffic across the pass has been a weekly mail run. Letters written by Tibetan herders on both sides are exchanged by postmen who meet at the top of the pass.

I have booked into the Hebei Guest Hotel, Beijing.  Does anyone know what this hotel is like?

  It is a court yard hotel and seems to be located in the centre of Beijing.

Does anyone know what the local beer is in Beijing?  What should I try?  How much should I pay?

I'm currently in Jinghong, about to embark on a trip down the Mekong river to Thailand.  I've learned a few things.

The trip:

• costs 420 yuan if you book a spot through the Mei Mei Cafe in Jinghong.
• can be done on either a cargo boat or a passenger boat, but they don't always run
• takes 1.5-2 days, depending on various things
• leaves irregularly depending on the water level in the river.  You can go after a heavy rain.
• does not require a myanmar or laos visa
• starts in Guanlei (关累), which is 5 hours away from Jinghong.  Tickets can be purchased at the northern bus station.
• leaves when it's ready, which isn't necessarily known ahead of time.
• has attendants in the case of passenger boat

Boats apparently differ in quality and comfort, but I don't know anything about that.  Also, we were told that we would eat meals with the crew of the ship (we're taking a cargo ship).
