This lake is in the crater of one of the mountains in Changbaishan nature reserve, and is possibly the most popular part of the park. The lake straddles the North Korean/Chinese border so although it's pleasant to hike off the beaten track, you should avoid wandering into the southeastern part of the lake, as you may well be arrested by North Korean officials. (Google Maps marks the border incorrectly here).
