Pretty much all of the tourist oriented shops here sell crafts from around the province, so there would be a lot of competition both on price and sheer quantity in Yunnan province. I get the impression--not sure why--that mainly tourists and tourist-oriented businesses buy these crafts.
The other market seems to be for more stylish foreign crafts. My two friends run a shop in Kunming and one in Zhongdian where they sell things imported from Thailand. Seems like they do very good business in Kunming, since they ran out of stock in a few months and have to go back to Thailand.
