First of all, I should describe our situation, I will come back to China around Christmas holiday, actaully, we are not traveling at that moment, because I just want to take my girlfriend to there and have a good rest. You know, currently my girlfriend takes too much pressure from hers job working in a multination bank in Guangzhou, and she will take hers IELTS exam in Febrary 2006, so I want this travel not the real travel, because during the days in Dali I will help her to prepare for the IELTS exam. Here, I want to tell what my requirements, we need a room, it doesn't matter hotel or guesthouse, but the price should be reasonable, and should have bathroom, toliet and internet access (we have laptop). |

Don't worry. There are plenty of guesthouses in Old Dali Town. Are you arriving by train?

Thank you so much, Wocca! I am not sure whether take train or airplane, because I still need to discuss with my girlfriend, but I prefer to take airplane. Can you give me more detail about the guesthouses? If we take airplane, then we will arrive in Dali on January 1th, but I don't know how many days will be taken when take train, so what should we do before or after we get to Dali.

Catch a taxi from the train station to Old Dali Town. There are a few budget guesthouses in & near Foreigner Street. You will see them when you get there.
Flying to Dali would be the ideal way to travel but that depends on how much spare time & money you have.

I have already checked the train schedule, but I couldn't find the train to go to Dali from Guangzhou directly, only have the train to Lijiang and Kunming. When I checked the flight to Dali on the internet, I also couldn't find Dali, the same as the train schedule. Wocca, would you give me more detail how to get to Dali, by train or by airplane? Thanks!

I believe there's a flight, but no direct train. Train rides are charged by distance and class of berth, so you're not significantly worse off price-wise by taking a train ride in two parts instead of one.
