Which is more important for you:

1) Knowledge from books ?

OR Shocked Shocked

2) Knowledge from personal experience?

To me, knowledge from books can complement the common sense learned from every day experience. A lot of the time, the world doesn't work in intuitive ways, and you can learn those things from a book (or a teacher) much more quickly than you could from personal experience.

A few examples of things I found much easier to learn from a book (being taught by a teacher) than from personal experience w/o a book.

  1. Stars, like our sun, are huge bright, and round. Unlike our sun, they are very very far away.
  2. The algorithm for long division by hand.
  3. Christians have killed a lot of Muslims during the Crusades
  4. Who moved my cheese?
  5. How to write Chinese characters.

Admittedly, I've learned a lot of things (even academic things) just from thinking about the things I learned in books, realizing certain facts and making certain connections. Not sure what you'd call that -- perhaps a hybrid between the two places of learning?
