I want to travel by train in july by train from Xiamen to Kunming. I have a couple of questions about this trip:
- what are the prices for a single trip?
- do we have to make a reservation before?
- is it possible to sleep at the train when it is night?
- are there other things we have to keep in mind?

You'll want to get a sleeper berth (hard sleeper is fine, and cheaper than soft sleeper). You don't generally need to make a reservation beforehand, but get your ticket as soon as you arrive in Xiamen if possible. Sometimes tickets can be sold out if you wait till the last 10 minutes or hour before the train leaves.
Maybe you want to buy some instant noodles (with disposable paper bucket) to eat on the train. All trains have potable boiled water which you can use to seep your instant noodles.
