Hi Rosie,
I'll be there in May but even newer than you! Maybe we can meet for a meal. You'll be all settled in by then!

Head to Old Dali Town. There's usually foreigners staying there.

Thanks guys,
Yes, I have been out to old Dali town several times but have seen minimal tourists. Don't know if I'm just unlucky or don't know the right cafe to be in.
Cin, tell me more please. When exactly in May, where are you from and are you a tourist or here to work?

Hi Cyn,
When are you arriving? Are you working here or just passing through? Love to meet you; where are you from?
Cheers

Hi Rosie
Just came across your comment on here. sorry my reply's a week late! I'm also aussie, and last year taught english voluntarily at no 1 middle school in xiaguan. the school has a contract for 4 foreign teachers a year, one of which is always aussie. the schools at 256 longxi rd, next to the bank of china. if you ask for chen pei liang or liu jin guang (both with good english, and both with an english name of john) they will point you in the direction of the aussies. there is also a laowai family or two living in xiaguan, apart from them, most people are in dali (hooray for the no 4 bus, right?) .
good luck.
love to hear how you get on.
