Hi All,

 my first post

I am planning for the second time to organize a SideCar Trip in China

We did ( 5 bikes, 9 people) Urumuqi => Kashgar last year, and it was amazing !!!

This year (may) i would like to do a trip in Yunnan, 7 bikes 13 people, 10 to 13 days

Starting in KM do you have any suggestion / advice for the trip, i am looking for fun roads (not highways) where we can find something off the beaten tracks. The bikes can do 150 to 300 km a day on fair roads.

any information on my XJ trip don't hesitate to contact me

from China you can check the website : http://bertie.2-minute-website.com/phy/fred/2005/vacation/0504xinjiang/index.html

from eslewhere www.fredphoto.com

Thanks in advance

If you're willing to spend money, it's possible to find digital maps of China.  But China controls maps of the country pretty tightly, so good maps are difficult to find.  If you're just looking for a paper roadmap, you should be able to find one with english romanization in a bookstore in Kunming.  Check out one of the many Xinhua Book stores.

you can now buy topo maps of Yunnan. they area bit dated (1983) I found them at a map shope in Kunming. not in english though. I find it best to have them in Chinize anyways, Chinize for the most part can't read engilish, and have trouble reading maps, let alone topo maps. (this is a personal observation and a blatent generalization) it help when asking direction if the maps you are using have chinize writing on them. as for your self reading the map, if they are acurate, it doent matter if the names are in english or chinize.

Thanks for the answers...

Brainstorming with the team we change our plans and instead of driving only in Yunnan, we will ride from Lijiang to Lhasa ...

Big thing but sounds fun !

I have read many story from mountainbikers and it sounds really nice.

I will continue posting on the Tibet forum, but have you any experience or links related to this trip ?

 Thanks in advance
