Jianshui is possibly on its way to becoming a popular tourist destination, probably in part due to its proximity to the popular Yuanyang. The town itself boasts some traditional wells, mansions, and temples, and a "Swallow Grotto".

Jianshui was the site of nuclear tests in 1970 and 1971, and currently believed to be home to some of China's nuclear arsenal.
