The most important monastery outside the Tibet Autonomous Region, Labrang is one of the six most important monasteries of the Gelukpa (Yellow Hat) Sect. It houses over 1000 monks. Built in 1709 by the monk E'Ang Zongzhe, a first generation living Buddha, or Jiemuyang from the town of Ganjia. Tibetn language books, medicine, calendars, music and art are available for purchase. Admission: 60 yuan
