Review of Joy Sightseeing Guesthouse by khysnap (5), 2006年1月5日
The guesthouse replied us very fast when we made a reservation through the Internet.
The room of the guesthouse was clean and tidy. And the couple gave many info to us.
We have a very nice trip in HK! And we want to give our deepest thanks to them!!!
Review of You Yi / Poachers Hostel by markfinn (5), 2006年1月5日
Or possibly, a good location ruined by a Lowai hostel.
Even though the hostel itself is tolerably clean, reasonably quiet and has staff who are friendly enough I cannot reccomend this as a good place to stay. The problem is it's location. It is impossible to move the 20 meters from the hostel to the nearest taxis without (often literally) fighting off between five and ten beggars (who will physically grab you and try to "massage" your pockets why screaming "MONEY" at you. Once you are clear of them you will then be approached by drug sellers (I suspect an organised group in the area as they are all of the same non-asian ethnicity and share similiar accents) and the pimps who will follow you screaming "Lady Bar! Cheap! Just for you! Pretty Ladies!"
The festival usually runs 4 or so days, with the earlier days being more packed with activities and performances. The morning of the first day features performances -- dancing and singing. The horse "racing" starts after noon. Perhaps, for the jaded traveller, one of the more interesting parts of the festival will be the large number of tents pitched around the horse racing track and their various occupants.
Already an institution among Kunming’s English-speaking population, Quiz Night at Chapter One is an evening of intense intellectual competition. Teams of up to five vie for the two-week title of “smartest foreigners in Kunming” – and a case of delicious beer.
Held fortnightly on Wednesdays at 9:00 pm, Quiz Night gives Kunming’s English-speaking community the opportunity to show off their knowledge (or lack thereof) of current events, history, geography, science, art, music and of course – China.
Quiz Night is composed of three separate sections with short breaks in between during which team scores are calculated and updated. Most evenings feature neck-and-neck competition between several teams up until the final round.

The Lantern Festival (Simplified: 元宵节; Traditional: 元宵節/元宵; Hanyu Pinyin: yuánxiāojié) is a traditional Chinese festival/holiday, which is celebrated by the Chinese in many countries. On the Chinese calendar (a lunar calendar), the Lantern Festival is on the fifteenth day of the first month, making it the first major festival after the Chinese New Year. The Lantern Festival is also known as the Little New Year since it marks the end of the series of celebrations starting from the Chinese New Year. Koreans celebrate this festival as the Daeboreum. Vietnamese also celebrate this festival as tết trung thu. (fall lantern festival)
