Hi guys! I'm new here so I'll introduce myself a little...

Initially I didn't know anything about this forum until I posted a message at Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree forum and wtanaka directed me here. I'm from Singapore and I've already been interested in China for quite a few years. Besides, my grandparents were from China, Fujian province, so I thought it would be good to go back to my ancenstral land to see what it is like. I'm also looking into Beijing and have a friend over there, so I guess it will be easier. I'm especially looking forward to visiting the Forbidden City. I don't know why but I'm just interested about how the people and the emperors lived in the past and I thought this would be a good place to start. But right now, my focus is on Yunnan as I'm planning to make a trip there so I'm gathering info now.

I wanted to see the scenic side of China and how the rural people live their lives. I read about the ethnic minorities and the way they lived so it would be a good experience to see for myself what their lifestyles are like. I want to see the flora and fauna they grew up in so Yunnan will be my first stop in China.
