One really useful software (which is free for personal use if I remember correctly) is called "Neat Image". Their website http://www.neatimage.com/ gives me a 403 "Forbidden" message right now, but if you have some photos taken at night at high ISO settings that have a lot of digital camera noise/grain, this software can sometimes help in amazing ways.
Neat image is not free.. at least today. I bought it for $70- chipest home version is about 40... pretty nice though! I use it for every shot I made...
