How's the crime scene in Zhongdian, wtanaka ?

Pickpocketing is of course, present. But there apparently used to be a big gangster scene years ago. I heard one story about a monk getting beat up by a gangster for some reason. A few days later, the monk came back with something like 50 monk friends and put the gangster in the hospital.
At some point, the government hired or brought in even scarier policemen and gave them a pretty free rein. So things are safer now. When we opened the bar, a lot of locals were still rather afraid to go into the old town at night.
But now, the old town is full of kitsch shops opened by entrepreneurs from Dali. So it's well lit at night, and a lot more people are seen wandering around.
