![]() Joined: 2006-02-18 Points: 2 | Have ten days holiday coming up soon. Am based in HK and plan to catch the train from HK to Guangzhou and then on to Kunming. After that not sure. Would like to go Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Dali, Shangri-la and then ???? Will be heading back to HK by train also. Want to travel as much as possible by soft sleeper class. Can anyone suggest what would be the best route and what the train tickets cost approximately. Also, do the trains keep pretty much to schedule or do they usually run late. Sorry to sound so naive but hey, we all have to start some time Thanks for any advice.

You can take the train from Kunming to Dali, but from there, you'll be on roads. On the way back to Hong Kong, if you want to take the train, you can go back to Dali, or you can head east from Lijiang to Panzhihua and catch a train there.

Does anyone know what the cost of the following train trips would be?
1. Guangzhou to Kunming
2. Kunming to Dali
3. Panzhihua to Chengdu
4. Chengdu to Guangzhou.
Thanks so much.

The fares are a function of distance, the class of ticket (and whether it's a top/middle/bottom bunk for sleepers), and the type of train (with or without) air con.
The Dali/Kunming stretch is about 100 yuan +/- for a hard sleeper ticket. You can (roughly) extrapolate that for the other trips based on their distances.
I have a fare chart that I've been meaning to incorporate into the train schedules for a while now. I'll work on that.
Others might know offhand fares for the other stretches.

If you still want to know the fares, I'll be happy to check for you. Send me an email or something...
