I am planning to visit China at the end of July and begining of August.

I can only stay for two to three weeks as I am restriected with time but want to see Bejing and Hong Kong (where I might be able to meet friends).

I have tired to get cheap flights between Bejing and Hong Kong but the cheapest avaliable via the internet from the UK are £210.  Are their any low cost airlines operating this route?  Where is the best place to book this type of flight?

I am tempted to travel by train but the online agents seem to be selling this through ticket at aroudn £110 or soft class. I know I will be paying over the odds and would like to book locally.  Any suggestions.

If possible I would like to break my journey along the way (half way if possible) to enable me to see somewhere else.  Does anyone have any good suggestions.

Thanks for any help I receive.

Wilson888 is in Hong Kong and may be able to give more information on this subject. However, it is usually cheaper to catch a ferry from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, and then fly to Beijing from the mainland.

Thanks for the help.  I am now planning to get a train from PEK > Xian then travel from Xian to Hong Kong by train.  I have seen the timetables and am now try to find a way of booking his service.  Is it much cheaper buying these tickets when I arrive or should I book on the internet first?

There's no direct train to Hong Kong from Xi'an. My suggestion is to take a train to Guangzhou (either K225/K228 or K81/K84 will do) and then get a bus/train to Hong Kong from there, plenty of those around. However do bear in mind that it takes about 26+ hours just to get to Guangzhou from Xi'an!

You could also consider taking a train to Zhengzhou from Xi'an (quite a number of those, get an overnight timing), then taking the T97 (only runs every other day, not daily) to Hong Kong.

If it is so difficult to travel between Xian and Hong Kong by train.  Can you suggest another route between Bejing and Hong Kong by train.  Would Shanghai be a good place to break my journey or can anyone suggest a more half way point?

 Thanks for all the help

Yes, I agree that Shanghai would be a better stopover.
