There's a plan to construct a dam on Tiger Leaping Gorge, which will fill with water one of the more well-known tourist attractions in Yunnan. Sean's Guesthouse will supposedly be under several meters of water when the dam is fully finished. I'm not sure if the plan is 100% yet. Many locals in Zhongdian seem to have "heard something about it," but not much more. According to this site:
Which is probably a good sign for those that want the dam to go through. |

last I heard the project was cancled. the Gaurdian had a piece about it a year ago. go ask Jay about his buddy Jasper Becker (?question on the last name). ;)
intresting the rumors are still flying.
I personaly can see no benifit for this project at all, except one more false floor ecominomc boost based on government spending at the cost of an already fragile enviroment.
anyways, back to my foil hat.

when i was living in yunnan last year people seemed to think the flooding of tlg was related to the impending flooding of the yangzi (much) further north. i dont know if this is actually possible but the two water systems ARE connected.

This article says that the decision hasn't been made yet. Interesting is this quote:
which gives you an idea of how expensive (or inexpensive) it is to build an extension to your house in Yunnan. Still not a wealthy place.

The Guardian has an interesting (and recent) news article about the dam's progress.
