Features watchtowers called "Diaolou" dating to the 17th century. The more recently built watchtowers were built to provide protection and lookout from bandits.between 1911 and 1949. By the 1920s-30s, the architecture had evolved, towers being residences up to nine storeys tall.

1833 of the towers still stand.

You can get to Kaiping from Hong Kong via catamaran, which will arrive at the port of Sanbu

Busses run to Zhuhai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
