The bar with the strangest name in the old town serves pizza and pies, but no cookies. The chef prepares some reasonably good hotel-style food that, while not exactly western, isn't bad. However, the service can be spotty -- the waitress here may not get around to asking what you want -- and the spinach, potato, and several other of the chinese dishes are to be avoided.
Three styles vie for supremacy in the spacious main room. Long solid wood tables, benches and square beams contrasts with the unevenly cut pieces of wood used to construct the shelves and to mount pictures. Finally, intricately carved tibetan style door panels and gold/silver glazed blue plates are mounted on the wall. The sheer volume of uncovered wood gives the place a raw feel. The bar is covered with log cross sections of different sizes and the wall behind the bar is a Jackson Pollock clay on dirt creation.
Beef Fried Rice (12 yuan). Mislabeled "Fried rice with Yak Meat" on the menu, this dish had a 35 minute wait in an empty restaurant. The consistency was almost goulash-like, with little bits of celery, red pepper, beef and onion. The flavor was a bit spicy, with an Indian slant, almost like food you might find in a Chinese restaurant in India.
Daily Special Soup (Potato Cream Soup) (6 yuan). The soup took 15 minutes to arrive and was an extremely tasty parmesan-covered potato soup with bits of slightly rare, toothy potato bits in it. At first it seemed a little bit watery, but overall nice, hot, and recommended.
