Fake Monks

  Joined: 2005-04-24 Points: 648 | I believe that fake monks exist -- there are almost certainly several that wander around aggressively begging for money where I live. But for 180 police officers to chase ten of them, there's got to be something else going on.

it's intresting that there is such a lack of awarness on what I can only assume is and orginized enterprise.
in India and SE Asia most people are smart enough to understand that beggers are not workign alone. but on the out skirts of Tibet the whole idea that a monk could be dressed that way for profit is shocking.
then again it all comes down to the fact the people generaly see what they want or expect to see.
shocking to me is the fact that the locals seem to have excepted the fagger monks as a part of the new china. you'd think in a land where sending a son to a monastery is an ingrained part of the culture that impersonating a monk for personl gain would viewed as one of the big taboos.
