Treehousechat is a chatroom software implemented using Javascript and XMLHttpRequest, a combination of technologies often recently referred to as AJAX. The server software is implemented using a MySQL database and two PHP scripts.

The server is implemented without the need for a dedicated chat server process. While this allows it to be hosted on a quite a variety of of hosting services in theory, it does necessarily also mean that the chat will have a higher latency than a chat program with a dedicated server.

Chat Tips and Features

• You can format your text using HTML. The list of allowed tags is: a, b, sup, sub, code, em, font, i, strong, u
• To perform an action, begin your message with "/me ". For example, try "/me says hi"
• You can see a preview of your text as you type it.
• Pick from a selection of smileys just by clicking on the one you want.
• Chat either anonymously with whatever nickname you like, or as a logged-in user.
• It even works with javascript turned off.
