Terror from Below: The Sichuan Earthquake

投稿者: sxd (10) 投稿日時: 火, 2008-05-20 08:57

Day One, 2:28 pm:

At the time, I was in Guanghan, about to give a lecture at the Civil Aviation University, 40 km north of Chengdu and closer to the quake’s epicenter. It was to be a surreal experience. I've been in a tornado and felt the helplessness one feels when pitted against Mother Nature. But, you can hide from a tornado; down in a basement. There is really no escaping an Earthquake. Its terror strikes you from below.

Any idea of Costs?

Review of Sakura Silk Market by AmyK (0), 2008年5月19日 4 stars

Similar to the Qianmen branch owned by the same man but this place is better for the food and a bit less rowdy in the evenings, a nice place to go after a stressful afternoon shopping in the Silk Market.

Review of Sakura by AmyK (0), 2008年5月19日 5 stars

There are two Sakura's in Beijing now after the success of number one located off Meishi Jie on Dashilan Xijie just down from Qianmen, the second is just round the corner from The Silk Market on Dongdaqiao Road near the British Embassy. I found the Qianmen Sakura after staying at the Far East Hostel just up the road, the bar in the hostel was pretty dead and closed at midnight every day but after being spotted about to return to my dorm one night I was taken down to Sakura where the atmosphere was all there, the place busy with friendly people and the beer cheap and cold.
