SHANGHAI police say they've detained a 19-year-old mother whose newborn boy was found dead in the restroom of a downtown Internet cafe on Sunday.
The mother, Li Jing, a Guizhou Province resident, was apprehended yesterday in another Internet bar in the city. When police roused the sleeping woman, they recognized her from a surveillance tape taken at the site where the child was abandoned.
Officers said Li confessed she left the boy behind after giving birth, and a subsequent blood test indicated she was the mother.
The women remained in police custody last night while investigators determine what charges might be warranted.

I'm currently studying in Shanghai Conservatory of Music and I've travelled widely in China for the past 2.5 years. I can help travellers with finding suitable accommodation (in Shanghai or elsewhere in China), buying train/plane tickets as well as airport/train station transfers. I don't do this for a living, politeness and good manners are very much appreciated. Please email/message me at ellyse99ATyahoo.com (substitute @ for AT, thanks) if you're interested. Thank you!
I'm not a travel agent, I'm studying here in Shanghai but I've had quite a lot of success finding suitable hotels for friends when they visit China. Not just in Shanghai, but in many other cities as well! I'm offering to help travellers find suitable accom regardless of where you're visiting. Feel free to drop me an email (ellyse99ATyahoo.com, change AT to @ please, it's just to stop spammers) or PM and I'll be happy to help. Looking forward to hearing from you!
