Approaching K2 From the North

The China Approach .... Shocked

K2 is one of the most famous (and notorious) peaks in the Himalayas. But approaching the giant from China in the north is an entirely different experience for western climbers. In fact, after a Japanese team first climbed the face in 1982, few have even attempted to follow in their footsteps, and even fewer have succeeded.

The north base camp of K2 lies in a remote corner of China's Xingjiang province. Only a handful of people have ever travelled to this isolated mountain wilderness on the north side of the Karakoram range. Recently opened to foreigners this is one of the most unspoiled and least visited parts of the entire Himalayas.

But whether you have come to conquer the mountain summit or to simply adventure through a little discovered area of China, an expedition to the region promises to provide plenty of dynamic scenery and a unique and ancient culture.
