Mingyong Glacier and MeiliThis is a view of a portion of Mingyong Glacier with Mount Kawa Karpo vanishing into the clouds in the background. This was taken on our visit there in 2004. What an idyllic spot! I could live out the rest of my days in this area. Are you listening, Friends of China - USA? Thanks to Jeff and the rest of the Crosby's for getting us to visit Yunnan, and to our daughter, Amber for insisting we visit the Deqin area.

Suzan and Neal at MingyongThis is a photo of Suzan and I at the observation deck overlooking Mingyong glacier, coming down from Mount Kawa Karpo. The nice folks at the Migratory Bird Bar found us a driver to take us there and back. What a climb from the base to the glacier. I rode a Tibetan "mule" half way, sharing with my daughter Amber. The walk half-way up was one of the hardest exertions of my life... but worth every gasping breath. This whole area is beyond description and the view of the glacier is one of the high points.

Stupas, Prayer Flags and MeiliWhat a view! This was taken in 2004 from the upper deck of the Migratory Bird Bar. We were waiting for the clouds to lift on the Meili Mountains. Behind us is an impressive row of Buddhist stupas and prayer flags. Our prayer is that my wife and I can return to Yunnan and this site someday.

Heaven from the BarHow many bars have a view of heaven from their upper deck. This shot was from the Migratory Bird Bar upper deck in 2004. This shot is, I believe, Mount Kawa Karpo, which has never been ascended. We should have stayed in this area for a month, instead of just a few days...

Jared at BreakfastMy son Jared eating breakfast on the deck of the Migratory Bird Bar in 2004. What a spot and the owner's were kind enough to prepare a western breakfast for us Texans. You wil never eat bacon, eggs and toast in a more beautiful location.

From upper deck of BarThis is one view from the upper deck of the Migratory Bird Bar, a lovely place outside Deqin. The view is beyond description. One of the nicest places on earth.
