Winter is shaping up.

Wow Wesley has given this page a blog option. For the sake of novelty, Why not!

It has snowed for two days in town, winter has come to stay in south central British Columbia. Friday the 11th was remembrance day, a day to remember those who gave their lives fighting in combat. A group of my dirt bag friends and I went ski touring. Drive a hour out of town and 15km up a logging road. Two other group ahead of us and the first set of up tracks was set a few days before.

The snow pack was surprisingly good. 135 cm, with only two thin crust layers, one buried at 35cm down and one right on top. –5c and nothing was moving.

I’m still waiting for my split board to show so I was on snow shoes trying to keep up to my friends on skis. Needless to say I got worked. At the top of the first climb we stopped to take the skins off, re-pack the gear and pass the whiskey around. Too bad I’m running pure at the moment. No beer, whiskey or drink of any kind, no smoke, no coffee. Just bacon in the morning to remind me I’m human. Mmmmmm bacon.

The first decent was a bit sketchy, on my part. But I was soon back in the swing of things. After two solid runs the season is under way.

Sunday; with 8cm on the ground at town level I went for a bike ride. A two hour grind of the Salty-dog loop. Riding in the snow has it’s charm. Sloppy wet and slick are the best way to describe it. Back to the Van with frozen toes and a warm heart. Ha ha ha.

Today on the bike again. There was a brutal crust which made the peddling harder, but the traction better. Though there was puddles in the creek beds and a couple of the log rides and bridges were a bit slick.
