I think it would be humorous in a way, if Lijiang were the first ever place to be de-listed from the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List.

The government of Lijiang, an ancient city and a World Cultural Heritage
site in southwestern China's Yunnan Province, has threatened to impose hefty
fines on polluters to protect the local environment.

We would like to enter Birma over land from Ruili to muse. Is there enybody who crossed this border in the last weeks. Normaly we would pass there about half November.

If there is someone who has more information about this border crossing please let me know.

I am a writer/photographer and wish to visit Yunnan in March 2008. I require the services of a guide/translator as I would like to get a bit off the beaten path....out to villages to meet and speak to locals etc. I am thinking of concentrating on the area around Jianshui. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can get in touch with a great guide?? Thanks in anticipation of your help,

SLIPPING INTO LAOS

I will be coming to live in Kunming in a couple of months time. Is it possible to buy a car so I can see the countryside on the weekends. I am after a very cheap second hand vehicle. Is this possible and can anyone tell me how I could go about it.
