Francophone Music Festival March 18th Beijing-Chengdu-Shanghai

The French Music Office (BMA) has organized a mini festival with an original line up of eclectic francophone music that will start in Beijing on March 17th (Tango New Space) and tour to Chengdu (18th) and Shanghai (19th). The program in Chengdu features: Stereo Total, the French-German Garage Rockabilly electronic/non electronic duo consisting of Francoise Cactus and Brezel Göring, followed by another emerging duet: les Delfes, and BBC Sound system with their festive mix of African music and ragga-hip hop. The concert will be also be broadcasted live on internet.

China's apparently trying to reform death penalty legal procedures.  The supreme court is going to start reviewing death penalty cases again, which it had stopped doing in 1983.  Appeals in death penalty cases are going to start being held publicly, whereas previously the hearings were closed.

Chinese were outraged by the case of a butcher executed for murdering a waitress who was later found alive, and that of a man who served 11 years for murdering his wife, who turned up not only alive but with a new husband.
